Why is it that healers aren't always the picture of health?
What Does it Mean When a Healer is Sick?

By Phylameana lila Desy, About.com

In choosing a Reiki Master several years ago I interviewed a handful of instructors before settling on the one teacher who I felt would be the appropriate person to learn this ancient healing art from.

The woman I decided on to teach me lived outside of my community. Taking her class would involve a road trip, but I was fine with that, especially since a friend of mine had agreed to take the Reiki I class with me. That January morning the weather was not favorable. We were both a bit apprehensive about traveling on snowy and icy roadways. We considered canceling our trip, but our excitement and anticipation prevailed. We decided to give it a go. We telephoned our instructor asking her if it would be okay to arrive a bit late as we expected road conditions to slow us down some. She told us that a third student that was to be in our class had already canceled on her and that we were the only students left. She assured us that class would not begin until we got there. Great! We then bundled up and climbed into my car. Less than five miles outside of the city limits we skidded on the slick road and landed in a ditch. So much for getting our Reiki I attunements that day! Boy, were we ever disappointed. But we were relieved that the accident that landed my car in the ditch left us both a bit shaken, but unharmed.

We rescheduled for another class date, this time we arrived to class without a hitch. When we were introducing ourselves my new Reiki Master shared with us that her spirit guides had told her that our previously canceled class wouldn't be held. She had been surprised to get our telephone call saying that we were on our way. Because a third student had canceled that morning she assumed her intuition was only half-right. Needless to say, the initial guide message she got was correct as the class didn't happen that day. She also told us that she was glad to have had that particular class canceled as she had been experiencing some physical discomfort. She had since been able to visit with her chiropractor before the make-up class.

My ears perked up when she made that statement. Huh? How come a Reiki Master went to another healer (a chiropractor) to get help? Couldn't she just apply Reiki to herself and make the pain go away? Some of my concerns were alleviated when she went on to teach us that healing often occurs in layers, not to expect a one shot miracle cure. She has an agreement with her spiritual healing team not to teach or do healing sessions when she is under the weather. She trusts the Universe to respect this pact. Was it just a coincidence that my friend and I had landed unscathed in a roadside trench keeping us from our appointment with a healer that was feeling poorly? I think not!
