South Beach Diet - Phase 1 - Second Week

Days 10, 11, and 12


DAY 10

I can happily report a new low for me on the scales this morning. I've lost 5.5 pounds since Day 1 - that averages half a pound a day. Pretty nice! I even phoned my mother to report the good news. She was very happy for me. My mother taught me about good nutrition when I was growing up. I can still remember the lessons about balanced meals she instilled in me as a little girl, even if I didn't enjoy eating my broccoli back then. Today I'm going to prepare one of her delicious recipes for our supper--Harvest Swiss Steak!

Breakfast - 2 egg omelet with mushrooms. canadian bacon, and onion. Glass of V8 juice
Mid-Morning Snack - rounded teaspoon of peanut butter
Lunch - Roll up (Chicken breast and non-fat slice swiss)
Mid-Afternoon Snack - Fudge Lite
Supper - Harvest Swiss Steak
Dessert - skip

Sugar Temptation - I was inbetween laundry loads this afternoon when the doorbell rang. There was a teenage boy at the door. He was selling boxes of candy as a fund raiser--gummy bears and chocolate peanut clusters. Oh my gosh, those treats were tempting. I didn't want to turn him down but felt I had to. I ended up giving him a small donation to help him meet his goals and sent him along his way with well wishes. That made me think that Halloween is not that far off. Hmmm... we may be handing out pencils this year. I'm not sure having a hoarde of candy treats in the house is a good idea. What I really love are those little "Smarties" candies. Those have been a traditional sugar rush for me in October!

DAY 11

My energy level has improved slightly and I'm waking up earlier and more alert in the mornings. I've noticed I'm walking around the house with a lighter step, especially when I'm going up the stairways. I'm also down another half pound, it paid off not giving in to those gummy bears yesterday. I'm looking forward to getting back to doing my yoga exercises, maybe I'll do that this afternoon. I've been really lazy and not exercising since I started this diet. I wanted to know if it really was true that a person could lose weight during Phase 1 of this diet without exercising... well, it's true! But my body needs some balance, so it is time for me to start introducing yoga and exercise bike back into my routine. I plan to get back to weight training twice a week after I adjust to Phase II.

Breakfast - 2 eggs, 2 strips of crispy bacon, V8 juice
Mid-Morning Snack - Teaspoon of peanut butter
Lunch - 1/2 Chicken breast cut in chunks, cottage cheese, half avocado
Mid-Afternoon Snack - Cherry Popsickle
Supper - Harvest Swiss Steak (leftovers)
Dessert - skip

DAY 12

No weight change from yesterday.

Breakfast - Broccoli Quiche Bar
Mid-Morning Snack - t. peanut butter
Lunch - skip
Mid-Afternoon Snack - 8 olives
Late-Afternoon Snack - Fudge Lite
Supper - Orange Roughy poached in lime juice, steamed zuchinni and yellow squash
Dessert - Strawberry Popsickle

My burst of energy from yesterday seems to have disappeared. Today I felt a lowering of energy. Maybe the past early wakings were a fluke afterall. My schedule was light today so I was able to take an afternoon nap. I was glad not to have to push myself. Tomorrow I'll be off on a day trip so I hope for renewed energy. Only two more days before my fourteen days of Phase I will be completed. Second Week of Diet: Days 13 & 14
