May 4, 2012 - Self Care - To have a successful blog it is important to blog, blog, and blog some more. But, here's the deal. Some days I find myself staring at a blank template in WordPress wondering what to write. Call it writers' block if you like, but usually it is me just not wanting to work, a symptom of work burn out.
But not one to shirk my duties, here I am blogging when I really need to be tending to my personal self care. Friday is my designated day to blog a healing focus and I'd be amiss if I didn't take the opportunity to write a quick reminder for everyone not to neglect their own self care. Afterwards, I'll take the rest of the day off... at least that's the plan.
Right now I'd rather be doing just about anything than looking at the computer screen and typing away. This is my body's way of telling me to take a mental health day. I tend to spend entirely too much time in my head and as a consequence my lower extremities get neglected... and my head gets congested... too much thinking, not enough action. Later today I think a nap is in order as well as taking a nature outing (when the current rainstorm lets up).
For anyone who has a physical job, the opposite might be true, time to stimulate your brain with some mental exercises. As much as some jobs tax the brain, other tasks can be mind-numbing.
It is important to check in with your body periodically (if not DAILY!) to see what it needs. Specifically, these are the areas to take a look at:
