Such a peaceful, serene image.
Lovely photo…The hands seem to mirror the candles, and I like the idea of incorporating lighting a candle into the process of settling into meditation or with some other intention. (Really nice, article, BTW.)
love it, it gives you a totally soothing feeling just by looking at it. Nicely done!
Candles are indeed wonderful. In the Catholic tradition, they are used in the Rite of Baptism (to symbolize the light of Christ, as you mentioned), but they are also used as symbols of prayer intentions, as an indication that the Blessed Sacrament is present in the church, as a representation of Christ’s resurrection (Easter candle) and in many other ways. I enjoyed reading about the use of candles in other traditions.
I have never been a big fan of candles. I worry about fire. But my husband and our current house guests have candles all over our house now. They seem to find them relaxing. The image certainly is peaceful. Lighting candles with intention is something we Catholics often do. Indeed, I have one in my home to honor St. Gerard. It makes you feel as though you are doing something to reach peace.
I’m not a big fan of scented candles, which I often find overpowering, but I do like the idea of lighting a candle with a higher intention. Almost any act can be meaningful if the mind is in search of a higher purpose.
I’ll remember “lighting candles with intention” when I light ours for Thanksgiving. That really is a lovely article, Phyl.
Intention is everything! Candles are a nice way to help focus intention, and they can be deeply comforting, Lovely photo.
What a great concept! I think this could work even with the electric candles (I don’t use real candles because of pets).
