About the Person I Love
My husband and first love. When I was 10 I was at an auction. I had 50 cents to bid on something, and then a huge paper flower was held up. I bid and bid, but someone kept outbidding me. Finally it got up to 55 cents and I had to drop out. After the auction, this 11 year old boy came up to me with his hands behind his back. He said "Hi, I'm Pat." and held out the flower for me.
My Personal Love Story
Pat and I dated off and on for 6 years after that. When he was a junior in high school he started talking about us getting married after high school. I panicked. I had been abused most of my life, and truly believed I didn't deserve anything good in my life. I broke up with him and refused to talk to him anymore.
He was married and divorced twice, I was married and divorced once. We each had 3 children, almost all the same ages. I had moved to Virginia after my divorce. Seventeen years after we broke up, I went to visit my aunt near where we had met. It was the first time I had been in that area in 16 years. While I was there, a truck pulled into their driveway, and out walked another family friend, and Pat. I was shocked to see him. We recognized each other immediately. He hadn't been in the area since I broke up with him 17 years before. We got together and talked later that week, and found that we both still had the same feelings for each other. I told him that I broke up with him all those years ago because I thought he deserved someone better than me. He replied that there was no one better.
Eight months later, I moved up to New York to be with him, 17 months later we married, and we will be celebrating our 16th anniversary this coming August.
- Never give up. If something is meant to be, it will work it's way into your life.
- You deserve the best, no matter what people tell you, or what you were told as you were growing up.
