About My Animal Companion
My pet's name is Rini, a Japanese Spitz. I brought him home when he was a month old. Now Rini is 13 years old. He is a great friend who keeps me busy always. He is always keeping me cheerful and he is such a caring pet who knows when I am sad and will try to cheer me.
My Healing Story
Suffering is an experience that we all have in common. As wide and varied as our stories may be I think there are same common elements of experience we all share. Bad news is something we are not fully prepared to handle well. When we first receive terrible news we often experience a myriad of emotions. In these cases we start a day in a positive sense and suddenly everything is transferred in the revelation of suffering as it happened with me.
When I lost my teenage son in July 2002 who suffered Hodgkins Lymphoma (cancer) it made me completely isolated. My pet Rini brought me out of this pain as I talk to him whenever I am depressed and he listened. The time and effort I spent caring for my pet returned to me.
Now I spend lot of time caring for my pet in form of walks and playtime. He is a big health benefit for me. I find myself exercising more and talking to my pet, this a great way to reduce stress and anxiety. Owning a pet is beneficial to me and my family.
The hardships involved in owning a pet are well worth my time and money. I will never find a more loyal devoted friend then my pet Rini who loves me unconditionally. I now strongly believe my pet Rini is a healer as I have experienced it for myself.
Lessons Learned
- have always loved dogs and I can well remember my own beloved childhood friends as well as that desperate desire for my very own canine companion.
- I don't have many friends so for me my pet is a wonderful playmate and friend.
- When I play with my pet it reminds me the need for play and fellowship, this does not disappear when we leave childhood. There is no such thing as being too old to play. Perhaps we need to revise our choice of game and venue, but no matter what our age, there should be no limit to our ability to join in the fun!
