Title of Poem
Our Son
My Inspiration
When I lost my son to Leukemia at the age of 14, I wrote him this poem. We then had it etched on the back of his monument. It was a letter to him from us, it was our way of saying goodbye and when I think of him, I remember the poem and I feel his presence.
My Original Poem
Our Son
One bright morn,
Just past eleven,
God sent us you,
Straight from Heaven.
Into our life,
There came such joy,
It was the birth
of our baby boy.
Thru the years we
watched you grow,
Into a young man
the world should know.
Life without you
Sure will be tough.
But we are so proud
You belonged to us.
Lessons Learned
- My son was a very special boy, and after we lost him I almost fell apart. So my poem, even as simple as it was, made me come to realize that he was a loan from God, and my husband and I were the lucky ones chosen to take care of him during his time on earth.
I felt sorry for the world who would not get to experience his life, but I came to realize that even for the short time he was on this earth he had made a huge difference in so many lives.
It is very tough going on without him, but I was and still am very proud of him.
