Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
Additionally, she is a research consultant in the substance abuse prevention project for older adults at Hanley-Hazelden in West Palm Beach, Florida. As a Research Fellow at Lehman College in the Bronx of New York City, Dr. Shafer integrated substance abuse content into the social work curriculum, funded through the New York State Addiction Technology Transfer Center.
She maintains a private practice in W. Palm Beach Florida called Limitless Potentials, Inc. As a consultant, Dr. Shafer conducts training for quality improvement, strategic planning, and staff development. As a qualified supervisor, she trains clinicians seeking licensure. She has numerous publications including a book she co-authored a book entitled Asthma Free in 21 Days: The Breakthrough Mindbody Healing Program published by Harper-Collins, March 2000 and St. Martins Press, 2002. She is Review Board Member of the Journal of Social Work Practice in the Addictions, Haworth Press.
