Affirmative Healing

Reiki and Crystal Therapy

From Toni Silvano, for About.com

The following article and healing modality came about due to my own experiences in the healing arts over the year I have been practicing Reiki. As far as I know, there is no healing modality called "Affirmative Healing." I was given those words during a Shamanic Journey a few weeks ago. What was shown to me.

Laying on of Crystals

Many people come to me for a Reiki healing session with very good intentions. They want to feel better, or at least they think they do. I have found that it is very difficult for people, including myself, to take a really good look at the core issues causing the problem. I have had some success with the laying on of crystals and even more success just listening to people speak about what is bothering them. However, many of us find some sort of comfort zone with the problems we are experiencing, and although we definitely want to feel better, part of us just will not release the issue.

The first step, in my opinion, is to make the client feel comfortable. I usually play soft music and have essential oil burning in a diffuser. Begin by having the person lay face up on the table. I place a clear quartz crystal at the head of my client about four inches away from the body. This will help amplify the energies I am working with. I usually begin at the head, rubbing the temples in a circular motion for about five minutes. During this time, if the person needs to talk, I just listen. I then move my hands to the crown of the head and gently tug on the hair. For some reason, this feels good and has a relaxing effect on most people. I then gently manipulate the scalp, neck, and face with gentle motion. While all this is taking place, Reiki energy is being channeled and you might find your client will tell you what sensations (heat, cold, tingling) he or she is feeling.

Throat Chakra and Breathwork

Next, I place my hand over the throat chakra. At this point I will ask the client if there is anything he or she wants to say. Every word the client speaks during a session helps me to understand the underlying problem that is causing the dis-ease. WIth my hand over the throat chakra, I will ask my client to take three very deep breaths. A lot can be revealed by the breath. For example, sometimes a client will inhale and I will feel some resistence, sort of like a series of short inhalations rather than one long smooth one. Other clients will inhale so quickly that they are exhaling before a full breath is taken in. Others will breathe very fluently, in through the nose, and out through the mouth. I have found through the years that the breath is an excellent indication of the emotional condition of the client. If I feel that the person is still resisting with the breath, I place a blue lapis over the throat chakra.

Releasing Tension

Next I will spread my hands out to the shoulders and with one hand on each shoulder, I am able to feel either a "tightness" or ball of anxiety, or a release of tension. This also enables me to further access the emotional condition of the client. In most cases, at this point in the session the face will suddenly appear very relaxed. That is the Reiki energy at work.

Next: With my hands over the client's heart...
