Tiffany says:

I am a photographer and co-owner of Aura Atelier, based out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In addition to being a photographer am also a writer, painter, inspirer, creator, devourer of knowledge, and lover of life! The arts have always been a part of my life, and I began my love affair with photography at the age of 17. Photography is not what I do, but who I am. I view the world through the lens of my camera, so it makes easy to see the beauty in everyday life. Photography is very much active meditation for me, when I am behind my camera, everything slows down, the mind chatter ceases to exists and it if just me with my client or subject in the present moment. My wish for all of my clients is for them to see themselves as I see them… perfect in this very moment.

In the last 12 years, I have worked in many different areas of the photography industry, trying to "survive" making a living doing what I loved. In 2004, I herniated two discs in my lower back, and doctors told me the only option was surgery. This assessment was alarming and did not resonate with me in the least. After exhausting every possible option in Western Medicine, I turned to an alternative approach. For the next two years I worked with different healers, trying to heal my physical body. Then in 2006, I had a car accident, and for the next two years I continued to push forward, struggling to maintain a career in the photography industry.

Along the way I lost passion for what I did. It merely became just another job. I loved interacting with the people in front of the camera, and my co-workers, but the job itself was unfulfilling.

In 2007, I was invited to a healing circle, led by Zsho Ten, Algonquin Medicine Man. I had never even heard of a healing circle before, but sitting there that night, in the front row of a jam-packed room, my life was forever changed, and in the fall of 2008, I began part-time studies, with The 8th Fire, School of Algonquin Shamanism.

Within 4 months I had quit my job, was a blubbering mess, but I never felt better! In August of 2009, having sold almost everything I owned, and leaving everything and everyone I had ever known behind, I moved to Calgary, Alta. It was through my healing journey with The 8th Fire, that I discovered I needed to go back to school to learn how to marry my love for story telling with my passion for photography. I continued my studies with the 8th Fire in Edmonton, Alta., meeting amazing new people that would become my family. I was finally LIVING, not just "surviving."

My years spent in Alberta, studying, healing and growing, not only rekindled my passion for my work, but lit it on fire! I knew that I was meant to merge what I had learned in The 8th Fire with my photography and writing. So in 2012, I moved back to Ontario and started a photo business with my partner, and I could not be more thrilled! I love that I get to establish a relationship with my clients where they feel comfortable, and trust me enough, to allow me the honour of capturing their true essence in a photograph that will last a lifetime. I get to make memories with people and take them on a journey of self-discovery all while having a blast! How cool is that?!

Tiffany's response to my question:

What lesson have you learned in life that has helped or inspired you in a significant way?

Only one?

The biggest life-changing event would have to have been that first healing circle I attended. Sitting in that room on that night, we were gifted with a 'rite.' It was the "right to disappoint everyone." This right unlocked a lot of freedoms for me. I felt that for the first time in my life, I didn’t have to make anyone else happy. I felt free to chase after my dreams, without living in the fear of the judgment of others. I no longer had to live up to anyone’s expectations, and I was so purely FREE to be ME!

What Tiffany says about her specialized boudoir photography:

My boudoir work is a HUGE focus for me, because I really incorporate my healing background into the session. My boudoir sessions are all about reconnecting a woman with her divine self, and empowering her to view her body in a healed way. We then showcase our pre-work by doing one kick-ass photo session that sends her confidence through the roof. I’m all about challenging the media perception of what a woman’s body should look like, and helping her realize the BEAUTY she truly is!
