Let the Numbers Guide You: The Spiritual Science of Numerology
(buy direct)Chapter 10: Number 8, the healing of dying into deathlessness: not drowning but swimming in the ocean of infinity.
This chapter consists of four sections, (1) an introduction of the number 8 and its numerological meaning, (2) the pranic body--life energy housed within the physical body, (3) life and death story of the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, and lastly, (4) a brief explanation of Akaal Moort.
- Number 8 - 8, the infinity number. The two circles which create the number eight represent the relationship between the finite self and the infinite self. The continuous movement made when drawing the infinity symbol "8" or "∞" is described as a natural spiral flow that returns to the same starting point. Another water (flow) description given is that the second circle is a reflection of the first circle in number 8. I'm a Scorpio sun child with a natal chart saturated with watery influences, I love water analogies! The author's comparison of the number 8 to an hourglass is also helpful. Using the hourglass analogy, Shiv Charan Singh gives the reader a perspective of two differing worlds (our dreams and reality). The sand shifting through a narrow passageway is our life energy flowing between these two worlds. My take away was that the number 8 offers insight into a variety of polarizing views (night and day, rich and poor, life and death, and so on).
In addition Singh assigns 8 the prestige of being a power number, examples given include:
- 8 trigrams on the I Ching
- 8 strings (ribbons) on the Maypole
- 8 armed deities
- 8 parts of mandalas
- 8 legs of a spider (its web representing the veil of Maya)
- Pranic Body - The pranic body is reviewed in this chapter because of the number 8 being attributed as a power number. Prana is power--the life force which is in infinite supply. We use our pranic body to draw from this power source. In this section the reader gets to explore the eighth dimension (daydreams and imagination). The subject of death and dying is also detailed, along with out-of-body experiences--remember the sand in the hourglass? Number 8 lets you disengage from your physical body, float in the eighth dimension, and later return to the body. The natural process of a physical death, releasing yourself (soul) from the pain of a diseased body, is described as a type of healing rather than an ending. The number 8 represents a merging of physical and the spiritual.
- Guru Har Krisha - Story of the eighth of the Ten Gurus of Sikhism who died at the age of 8 years from smallpox.
- Akaal Moort - The chapter ends with a brief paragraph which teaches the reader about timelessness, undying existence, and infinite prana.
