Question: Why does rescue dog damage fence and house?
Dear Madeleine,

My boyfriend rescued this dog when he was young. He has done much damage to the outside of the house and fence trying to get out during the day. When left inside does fine unless it rains (thunder and such) and then twice in one week tore up the wall trying to get out the door. He can open doors too. What is his issue and how can we help him?

Sandy

Answer:
Dear Sandy,

I'm sorry you're having such difficulties with him. He obviously has abandonment issues that come from his younger days and feels that he will be dumped again whenever you go out. He was probably just left and his previous owners never came home to him. There are some good Australian Bush flower remedies or Bach flower remedies that might help him let go of the past and trust that you will always come home to him. Another thing you could try is talking to him in your mind whilst your away. It might sound silly but it does work and I'm sure he'll feel reassured. I have to do this for my dogs when I'm working away as my Terrier sulks if I don't reassure her!

Best Wishes,
