Guide Review - Recess for the Soul
If you will take a few minutes out of your day and listen to Bernie DeKoven's CD Recess for the Soul you will be taken on a nostalgia trek back to your younger years. Recess for the Soul gifts us with delightful diversions from any serious thoughts (worry, stress, fear, etc.) that might be bouncing around in our minds causing havoc. Bernie recalls the various games we played as children (Mother May I, Simon Says, Freeze Tag, and so on) and suggests we take up this same play as a mental exercise. He reminds us that "play" and "games" are really teaching tools for children, educating them about getting along with others in a social setting through play. They learn to be better leaders, better followers, good organizers, understanding the importance of rules, and becoming well-rounded team players. Revisiting the world of pretend and imagination that children are so adept at requires that we take time to build a safe and enduring playground. So, although, his pretending exercises may be disguised as "play" I recognize Bernie's role as a compassionate healer. He offers unique exercises involving breathwork, grounding and centering, and more. Bernie also teaches us to recogonize our different personalities (serious, silly, naughty, and nice). Why not take a retreat from your stresses and construct a mental playground for periodic retreats? Take a joyful ride on the teeter-totter, it will help you handle any ups and downs you are experiencing in your life.
