Medicinal Herb Removes the Sting out of Bee Stings

Plantain Plant

Medicinal Herb - Plantain

(c) Phylameana lila Desy
This how-to pictorial for treating a bee sting also serves as an introduction to an ubiquitous "weed" that grows in North America and elsewhere. This weed is actually a medicinal herb. The Common Plantain Plantago major can be used as a nature remedy for cuts, insect bites, itchy skin rashes, and bee stings. Other varieties of the plantain are the English Plantain Plantago lanceolata and Hoary Plantain Plantago media.

This backyard bee sting remedy is great for on-the-spot treatment of bee stings when a first aid kit is not within reach. However, anyone who is highly allergic to bee venom will typically keep epinephrine readily available for prompt injections and will seek immediate medical care if stung (see About First Aid).
