Definition:

Palliative Care is the active compassionate care of the chronically and terminally ill, primarily directed towards improving the quality of life at a time when the patients disease is not responsive to curative treatment. The focus of palliative care is on the control of pain and symptoms. The goal is to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, social and cultural needs. This approach, encompasses the individual, family, caregivers and the community as a unit and extends to include grief and bereavement.
