Q. Could my fatigue and other symptoms be related to Epstein-Barr?

From Christopher Stewart

Full Question: Recent blood work revealed that I have very high levels (over 2000) of Epstein Barr IgG titers. I was told that this only indicates a past infection and does not explain my current symptoms of severe fatigue, muscle pain, foggy head, swolen lymph glands, and chronic upper respiratory issues. No doctor is taking me seriously, but I am a typically vivacious woman who is truly suffering now from SOMETHING. What can I do to feel better and could this be Epstein Barr related?

S.T., female, age 34
A. Dear S.T.,

YThe Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), also called Human herpes virus 4 (HHV-4), is a virus of the herpes family (which includes Herpes simplex virus and Cytomegalovirus), and is one of the most common viruses in humans. Most people become infected with EBV, which is often asymptomatic but commonly causes infectious mononucleosis. I would think that your Dr had checked for the mononucleosis along with the EBV test.

Your immune system is certainly not functioning as well as it could be, and there are many possibilities for your fatigue and other problems. Far more than I can cover in the limited space in my column at About.com

One thing that I would recommend would be to stimulate your immune function. The best for you would be to use Thymic Protein A (4 mcg per day). Thymic Protein A is a polypeptide produced by the thymus gland is composed of a chain of 500 amino acids.

It is available via mail from a variety of sources. You empty a packet under the tongue and let it dissolve for about 3 minutes.

Additionally use:

  • Fish Oil (EPA/DHA): 6-9 caps per day
  • Quercetin: 2-4 grams per day
  • N-Acetyl Cysteine Capsules (NAC): 2-4 grams per day
  • Glutathione: 1-2 grams per day
  • CoQ10: 100-200 mg per day
Be Well,
