It is all too easy to get caught up in our own agendas and busy ourselves with day-to-day activities and not notice other people around us. Just for a ten or twenty minutes try and set aside your own "stuff" and take the time to notice those people who are dearest to you (nuclear family members, friends) or with whom you share a common connection (extended family, work associates, neighbors, etc.). LOOK to see what is going on with someone who is struggling or in need of a friend. Take the time to LISTEN to their concerns. LOVE them by extending a helping hand, giving them a hug or warm smile, picking up the phone to say hello, or sending them a funny or supportive email or greeting card.
There will be plenty of time to get back on track and focus on you. However, you may discover when you begin changing the focus away from yourself that some of your personal troubles will begin falling away on their own, allowing you more time to help others. Find a charity or cause that is dear to your heart and get involved!
