Women and Pain is a woman's handbook
I recommend every woman (no matter her age) grab onto it and never let it go. It will particularly be a godsend for any woman who has sat in a doctor's office and been told by a male doctor that her symptoms/complaints don't lead to a diagnosis. This book offers confirmation that they are not crazy and that their pain is real and not something from their imaginations. Unfortunately many of our physicians are not as yet equipped or knowledgeable of female concerns and issues beyond offering prescription drugs or surgery.Young offers the integrative approach, suggesting an assortment of conventional treatments and holistic remedies to help alleviate and reduce the pain women often experience. Both traditional medicine and holistic approaches are outlined for a variety of conditions including back pain, osteoporosis, migraines, PMS, pregnancy, rheumatoid arthritis and more.
Young includes several case histories of women dealing with specific health concerns and how he diagnosed their problems. Together they discussed various treatments and would choose a treatment strategy to undertake in combating the pains and symptoms being experienced.
Young's Pain Prescriptions are given in the third section of the text. These prescriptions include prescription drugs, food nutrients, bodywork (chiropractic, osteopathy, massage therapy),natural herbals, physical exercise, mind-body therapies, acupuncture and reflexology.
