Kirlian photography, named after Russian electrician Semyon Davidovich Kirlian, was discovered by accident. Semyon and his wife Valentina began studying and developing this high-voltage electro-photography in 1939. Kirlian photography became publicized in the 1970s by Shelia Ostrander and Lynn Schroeder in their book titled
Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain. It is believed by some people that the colored light images in kirlian photography are depictions of the
auric or human energy field.
