Question: Why Is My Cat So Needy?
Full Question: I believe my cat was kept in a small cage with another cat from the time it was a very young kitten, about 4 weeks or so, until we adopted it. His problem is that he is very needy and is constantly rubbing his face on your face. He does this to everyone and wants attention all the time. We can't do anything without him bothering us. We love that he is affectionate and loving, but it's too much. What can we do to make him more independent?

Bobbie
Answer: Dear Bobbie,

He says that he has to touch you all the time to feel that he is loved. I told him that you do love him, and asked if he could be more restrained in showing his affection, by just coming up once and if you don't pet him to go away and come back later. He has not yet learned that you aren't going to vanish on him and he'll have to go stay in another cage.
