What Is My Guardian Angel's Name?

Many people, when they first begin to work with angels and communicate with them, are eager to know the angels' names. They want an answer to the question, "Who is my guardian angel?" As you continue to work with angels and strengthen your connection with them, you will get names. This comes with time, though, so you must be patient.

There is something important that all spirit guides know about angels' names. Angels don't like to give their names to someone giving a spirit reading for you. They prefer that you figure out their names on your own. Why? Because the connection between a human and an angel is an intimate one, and one that is only possible after you have done great work to build a spiritual connection. For this reason, angels would rather you discovered their names on your own.

How to Communicate with Angels

Everyone has intuitive gifts, although everyone is wired to use them differently. You can figure out how you are wired by paying close attention to how you receive messages from angels. Most people receive messages in a combination of ways, though one is usually stronger than the others. Angelologists refer to the four "claires" (clairaudience, clairvoyance, claircognizance, and clairsentience) as the most common ways in which people receive messages.

These types of intuition involve different modes of perception:

  • Clairaudience: If you hear strange music coming from nowhere, disembodied voices, or unusual sounds, you may have clairaudience, which means "clear hearing." Pay attention for angels who may be trying to communicate with you through auditory messages.
  • Clairvoyance: One of the most common forms of intuition, clairvoyance means "clear seeing." If you have this gift, you may perceive signs and symbols in the world around you. You may receive visions in your waking life or in dreams.
  • Claircognizance: If you've ever found yourself knowing something without knowing how you know it, you may have claircognizance, which means "clear thinking." Sudden insights or new ideas are a strong sign of this gift. Angels may try to communicate with you by sending you thoughts or ideas that seem to have no origin in your own thinking. Pay close attention to these mental transmissions.
  • Clairsentience: A gift that means "clear feeling," clairsentience is marked by the sudden appearance of emotions such as happiness or sorrow, or physical sensations such as warmth or chills. These phenomena are often signs that angels are trying, in their own subtle way, to communicate with you.

Some people have been communicating with angels for years and feel they have never received an angel's name. If that's the case for you, it may be that you are not in tune with the way you are "wired" to receive your guidance. Be open and aware of all of the different ways in which angels may be trying to communicate with you.

For example, you may have felt the vibration of an angel's name without actually perceiving a verbal name itself. The angel has been sending you their calling card but because you have been so busy waiting for a verbal name you have missed their message.

To improve your communication with angels, you must make an effort to quiet your mind. Being out in nature, gardening, and engaging in slow, rhythmic physical movement are a few things you can do to create a more relaxed mental state. Meditation is another effective way to induce this sort of calm. Once you have reached a state of relaxation, simply speak directly to the angels and ask them to help you develop a stronger connection with them. They want you to give them this kind of "homework" because they cannot build a connection with you unless you give them permission to do so.

To learn the name of your guardian angel, quiet your mind and focus your intention on this question. You may receive an answer in the form of a physical sensation or a mental image. Remain in a meditative state for as long as you can, as this allows your guardian angel to better communicate with you. With focus and persistence, you should be able to translate their message into a verbal name.
