WOMEN'S DREAMS - 1 2 3 4 5
| lila | I have a common dream theme that I would like to ask about - |
| TheDreamDoctor | Please go ahead, lila |
| lila |
okay - as a young mother (when my children were babies) - I would dream about them being harmed or dying - it was very frightening... since then I have known many young mothers experience similar dreams... it was like a mixture of anxity - responsibility overwhelm - what do you think? |
| Alicia | What do you do if you are constantly having a dream that you don't want? |
| TheDreamDoctor | Hi Lila. It's a very comon anxiety dream. A baby can hurt him or herself so quickly. It just takes a second to walk off a ledge, or balcony, fall into a swimming pool, get lost at the mall. It's no wonder mothers are scared to death. And it shows in their dreams |
| Stones77 | several years ago, i had a friend to help me remove the dreams from my life, they left me very drained and frightened. I very seldom dream now. but when I do, they are very powerful and full of meaning. does this sound normal to you Doctor? Or is there a thing as an abnormal dream? |
| TheDreamDoctor | Mothers always are worried that these dreams are precognitive - but they are not. They are just reflections of everyday worries and concerns |
| lila | ty - you have confirmed what I had thought |
| TheDreamDoctor | Alicia - first - What is the bad dream? |
| Alicia | It's about something bad happening at a cabin. |
| TheDreamDoctor | If it is a recurring dream, you want to think back to when the dream started. Do you remember something bad ever happening at a cabin in your own life? An attack or sexual molestation? |
| Alicia | I have PTSD. The psychiatrist thinks that some abuse occurred when I was a child. |
| TheDreamDoctor | It's normal for anyone to dream about events that occurred in our past that were disturbing and are not resolved. I am sorry to learn of the abuse. |
| ............................ Alicia left............. | |
| Lydea | DD |
| TheDreamDoctor | As you work with your psychiatrist to try to understand what occurred in your past, your dreams will give you an indication of your progress toward resolving the experience, and the feelings that it caused. |
| TheDreamDoctor | Lydea? |
| Lydea | DDis it normal for women to have more dreams than men? |
| Rainbow7 | ditto |
| TheDreamDoctor | Our experince on the Ask the Dream Doctor website certainly suggests that women dream more than men - or at least value their dreams more highly! |
| TheDreamDoctor | Most of our readers and visitors are women. |
| Lydea | for my husband says he rarely dreams |
| TheDreamDoctor | It is also normal for children and teens to recall their dreams more than adults! |
| kiszingafool | What would it mean if a dream was done like the world was lit by a black light? I had one like that, that was scary, but rather cool to watch. |
| Rainbow7 | could it be that women feel safe to discuss their dreams |
| TheDreamDoctor | The question, though, really is recall. Remember that study... We all have an amazing ability to improve our recall of dreams, if we focus our attention upon it. |
| TheDreamDoctor | Kissing: In the 1950's people used to have a lot of "black and white" dreams. Can you guess why? |
| TheDreamDoctor | Rainbow - I think so - yes. |
| lila | I agree Dream Doctor - when I journal - the recall is automatic - but if I don't - it escapes me later through the day |
| ladyhawk | DD what about messages in dreams |
| Rainbow7 | dd is there a trick to bring a dream back up |
| TheDreamDoctor | Messages of guidance, Ladyhawk? |
| kiszingafool | tv's |
| ladyhawk | well not really...this message came to let me know my friend had passed away in another state...and the family was looking for me |
| TheDreamDoctor | I believe that people receive messages in dream quite often. Especially about big issues, like death, and interestingly, this connection is very strong among family members. |
| ladyhawk | k ty |
| TheDreamDoctor | Parents often know when their children are in trouble or danger - and vice versa |
| kiszingafool | do you think we can dream of the future? |
| Lydea | so going back to lila's earlier question, how does an anxious mother separate those dreams then? |
| TheDreamDoctor | Yes. I know that I have dreamed of the future. |
| kiszingafool | (Okay , I 'm not nuts than0 :) |
| TheDreamDoctor | Lydea - do you mean how does she separate the anxiety dreams from the precognitive dreams? |
| Lydea | yes exactly |
| lila | good question Lydea |
| TheDreamDoctor | It's a good question. In my own work, I always see people expecting to receive guidance and answers to their life's questions in their dreams, and as I was saying earlier, our dreams rarely function in this role. Precognitive dreams are rare and infrequent - whereas anxiety dreams are daily almost |
| ............................ boobear joined............. | |
| Rainbow7 | if your dreaming of the future and something happens in the way of the dream... what makes that happen... |
| TheDreamDoctor | So a mother needs to ground herself in the real world, and also recognize that her dreams are a very logical reflection of her fears. |
| TheDreamDoctor | I think the more we learn about dreams, the better we are able to make these distinctions. Which is too bad |
| lila | now that my children are grown - I sometimes still dream of them when they are younger ages - usually provokes me to call them the next day - just to see if they are ok |
| TheDreamDoctor | becuase people are distressed every day about very common and ordinary dream symbols, when if they knew more about dreams, thay would not put themselves through such stress. |
| boobear | ............................ vee joined............. |
| TheDreamDoctor | lila - I think it is great to follow yor intuition like that. If your dreams show you that your kids are on your mind - it is so greatto complete the circle - by picking up the phone or sending an email to touch base. That's when your dream life really starts to be fun and interactive. |
