Alice

glad you made it back

...........................Psych joined............. :)

stonespeaker

lets see i just had done an introduction. as i said that indian people believe in many different ways and are of many cultures. there are some similarities though when it comes to spiritual matters.

stonespeaker

we all believe in the Great Spiri t. honor elders and love the earth and all that lives upon her.

...........................Moksha joined............. :)

stonespeaker

Indian people tend to see the spiritual, mental, physical and social aspects of life as inseperably connected and continuously interacting. that is where the medicine wheel comes in.

stonespeaker

the medicine wheel brings a person into balance. The wheel reminds us to look each day and check our walking in sacred balnce. we can only touch each other when we are balanced and centered.

stonespeaker:

to be out of balance is to be out of harmony and can not only be harmful to ourselves but harmful to those around us. when we feel uptight and fearful, angry and stressed out. and we lash out at others we are out of balance physically and mentally, spiritually and psychologically.

Lydea:

so how does the wheel help us balance ourselves?

stonespeaker:

the medicine wheel can be used to help achieve balance by using the seven directions that i will talk about now.

stonespeaker:

we enter the wheel in the east. the direction of renewal, the place of birth, rebirth and the capacity to believe in the unseen. the east is the place of all new beginnings. a person returns to the east many times in the course of lif's journey. each time there will be things to learn at a new level.

stonespeaker:

east is the direction of illumination. it is the direction where light comes into the world it is the direction of guidance and leadership. the ability to see clearly through complex situations.

stonespeaker:

in the east we learn to be totally in the here and now. the path is new and must occupy our attention. one of the most important gifts of the east is the focus of our attention on the now. east is the direction of childhood and we instinctively knew how to focus our attention as a child.

Alice

not according to my son

stonespeaker:

this is the direction to see how all things are connected. to be self reliant and to trust in the vision.

stonespeaker:

any questions, on the east or should i go on?

Alice

I like the East so far :)

lila

do you always start the circle from the East?

............................stonespeaker left ............. :(

Alice

Oh, Darn!

lila

poof

...........................stonespeaker joined............. :)

Lydea:

she's back

lila

ahhh welcome back, did you get the two comments before you poofed stone?

stonespeaker:

i don't know if it is my server or just gremelins. maybe i type too fast. i get excited.

...........................Moksha2 joined............. :)

Alice

perhaps hit return more often?

lila:

onto the south

Psych:

what about an answer to lila's question first?

stonespeaker

i might mention before we get started again there are seven directions, east, south, west, north, up, down and self within the center of the wheel.

lila

my question was: does the circle always begin at the East?

stonespeaker:

yes, the beginning, the dawning of the day

lila

thank you

stonespeaker:

also it could be considered the birth be it an idea or a real birth.

stonespeaker:

any more questions?

Moksha2:

none here.

Lydea:

I'm curious as the average Josephine

stonespeaker:

the south is youth, strength, vigor, a time of growing, preparing for the fall and winter.

Lydea:

I'll wait, please go on

stonespeaker:

it is a place of generousity, sensitivity to feelings for others, passion, compassion, love, trust and inter-connectedness to others.

stonespeaker:

love is connected to the south, love of others.

stonespeaker:

the south teaches discipline of our physical bodies. this can encompass diet, exercise, and the senses such as sight, hearing, touch and taste.

lila

Lydea, go ahead and ask your question

stonespeaker:

yes, please lydea

Alice:

I have to leave... I look forward to reading the transcript. Thank you for sharing Stone Speaker

Lydea:

well, I've had some experience with walking the medicine wheel.............but I'm not sure I could explain the exact process to it

Lydea:

in layman terms what/why/how does this process actually work?

............................Alice left ............. :(

stonespeaker:

i need to explain the directions first then we can get into how all the directions fit together.

Lydea:

k

...........................MFG joined............. :)

MFG:

I'm new and just learning from Stone Speaker

stonespeaker:

for instance, a leader can learn to see how thngs are connected to all other things in the east and trust in the vision, whereby in the south the leader learns to use the power and have the health to carry the power out.

stonespeaker:

ok lets move on to the west. the west is the place of where we learn to accept ourselves as we really are.

stonespeaker:

as spiritual beings.

stonespeaker:

We go within in the west and learn to use intuition and attention to inner guidance and knowing.

stonespeaker:

intuition is strengthened through meditation and prayerful attention to the voice within. when we feel lost and without direction to sit in stillness in the west may give us many answers.

stonespeaker:

west is also the fall, the gathering time, the time of middle age.

stonespeaker:

in the south our hearts were drawn to goals and ideals that may be good or not, but in the west we look within to judge out the ideals and goals against the spiritual understanding .

stonespeaker:

we learn to see with our inner eye and get our spiritual connection with the Creator.

lila

I like the WEST... :)

stonespeaker:

this is also the direction of feelings, the flowing.

stonespeaker:

you could say the awareness of the heart chakra, for those familiar with chakras.

stonespeaker:

any questions or can we go to the north?

Moksha2:

So what would you compare the East and South to...chakra wise?

...........................Beezer joined............. :)

Beezer:

Am I too late for discussion?

stonespeaker:

the north is the place of winter, elders, ancestors, to think, speculate, predict, problem solve, organize and learn. Its winter and there isn't much doing outside so we have time to learn and do mental things.

Lydea

nope right in the middle of the medicine wheel

stonespeaker:

North is the direction of completion and fulfillment. to complete goals and the vision that began in the east.

stonespeaker:

detachment is also in the north. the access to knowledge and wisdom required to judge whether or not the times of completion is indeed at hand .

lila:

stonespeaker, could you respond to moksha's question about the chakras in corelation to the MW directions?

stonespeaker:

detatchment also means freedom from resentments, jealousy, desire, anger and fear. It means letting go of all things, even those we love best.

Beezer:

Q: How do these directions relate to our daily life?

stonespeaker:

I'm sorry moksha, what was the question about chakra in corelation to MW direction.

Moksha2:

If west is heart chakra, then what is East and South related too?

stonespeaker:

east is related to spirit, to the beginning of ideas. south is the actual physical action. i am not too familiar with chakras

Moksha2:

ok thank you.

stonespeaker:

the west would be the introspection and meditation and prayer and the north the mental.

lila:

north, mental, as it the practical mind?

stonespeaker:

since i am also a tarot reader i can corrilate them to east - swords, air - sourh, wands, fire - west cups, water, and north, earth penticles

stonespeaker:

ok? any more questions? if not i will explain directions up and down together.

MFG:

Please, continue.

stonespeaker:

i should say, above and below. below is earth who is our mother. through her we receive life itself.

stonespeaker:

we are stewards of the earth and all our relations which are the four legged, winged ones, crawley ones, swimming ones, and standing ones, which are the trees, rocks etc.

stonespeaker:

in union we belong to the life circle to live in harmony with mother earth.

stonespeaker:

above is father sky - weather, sunny skys, thunder storms, wind, clouds, energy, light, cold and warmth

stonespeaker:

the partnership of both earth and sky that makes life is an example of partnership energy to reproduce. that is why we use the terms mother earth and father sky.

...........................mastermom joined............. :)

stonespeaker:

any questions?

Moksha2:

doing alright here.

stonespeaker:

now we go to the center - the self, the center of the wheel. we are the center of our wheel.

stonespeaker:

his where it all comes together. the wheel has spiraled into the center. looking at the east we see the realm of the mind and its potential to initiate intention and understanding.

stonespeaker:

to the south is the gift of evolution through interdependency and encounter

stonespeaker:

turning west west we find the teachings of the mature heart and the fluidity to continue growing and changing.

...........................Beezer left ............. :(

stonespeaker:

looking north we see the possibilities of manifested intelligence

stonespeaker:

beneath is mother earth, the experience of nourishment in the community of life the orientation to cycles of enfoldment.

stonespeaker:

above is father sky reaching into destiny, the vision of what can be. the desire to know. the perfect circle of life's sacred balance between earth and sky.

mastermom:

what is the origin of the medicine wheel??

stonespeaker:

awareness spirling inward to center - personal self becoming, merging with great mystery, larger self, becoming more.

stonespeaker:

you ask about the origin of the medicine wheel, i don't know. i have been studying some celtic beliefs and it goes back into their ancient history.

Moksha2:

have to go thank you for the info stonespeaker. Lila will get the info later. Love, Light, and Laughter to all.

lila:

stonespeaker - could the Medicine Wheel be set up to use during a calendar year?

stonespeaker:

i am sorry if i went so fast but now i am ready for questions.

lila:

It appears to be a life cycle - but I wondered

stonespeaker:

yes, the medicine wheel iis seasonal east - spring, south - summer, west- fall north winter

..........................aurum joined............. :)

stonespeaker:

also is a life cycle - east - birth, south - youth, west - middle age north - old age

lila

so if you used it as a yearly cycle would you begin with the springtime - or on an individuals birthday?

stonespeaker:

probably springtime but it could begin as a birthtime.

stonespeaker:

i usually think of it timewise as the wheel of the year

lila:

the chat room is open for questions from stonespeaker regarding the MW and its directions

stonespeaker:

seems as a birth it might be a little ackward.

lila

She is also a tarot reader, Rune Master , and astrologer...... so she is a wonderful teacher of many things

lila:

especially for me - my birthday is in November...LOL

MFG:

I must run, thank you everyone for the wealth of information. Bye

Lydea:

so one more time stonespeaker, how can this process of the medicine wheel work for the average person? can you give us an example?

stonespeaker:

i am afraid i gave everyone too much information too fast. the wheel has so many aspect.

stonespeaker:

yes, lets take a problem

............................MFG left ............. :(

stonespeaker:

east - identifying the problem, breaking it down as its basic core.

Lydea:

let's say the problem is that I'm having problems getting along with my husband

stonespeaker:

south - emotions, does it have to do with trust, innocence with others?

Lydea:

now what?

stonespeaker:

west - what basic emotion is involved - anger, love, betrayal, what is your role in the problem?

stonespeaker:

North - what wisdom can apply, what lessons can be learned through the experience.

stonespeaker:

then the spiriling in to self and putting it all together and answer comes.

lila:

stonespeaker, can you use a specific problem, like spousal problem Lydeasuggests, and do an example for us?

Lydea:

that will take my cooperation.............right stonespeaker? This is a hypothetical problem so I open this up to someone who might havea real issue they want to take through the medicine wheel.

............................mastermom left ............. :(

............................stonespeaker left ............. :(

lila:

oops, third strike out, hope she returns to us

lila

Lydea, you want to talk about your experience about the Medicine Wheel from school until she returns?

Lydea:

well that is what I was hoping we'd actually get to do here in the room

Lydea

this type of journey takes the person deep inside of themselves and can be very revealing but it takes one who has the courage to do it

Lydea

we did it as a group supporting the others who did want to do it with a leader taking the person through the wheel process

lila

was it BIG - on the floor to actually walk like the labyrinth?

Lydea:

it's not something I would suggest someone attempt by themselves

Lydea

noooo, it's the concept of the medicine wheel

Lydea

it's not the physical example of the wheel drawn out on the floor

Lydea

it's the actually psycholgical process is what she was talking about

Lydea:

we had a huge chart on the wall representing the medicine wheel

Lydea:

osiyo stonespeaker

stonespeaker:

I am sorry this gets to be a an aggrivation

lila

sorry this keeps happening....and I have an appointment soon......

Lydea

I figured you were teaching us a new dance...........one foot in, turn yourself around......poof, come back try it again

stonespeaker:

lets see we were going to use a real example

Lydea

yes can we do that?

lila

yeah, could we use a real example?

stonespeaker

lets say we have a grumpy husband. east we identify the problem - he's grumpy - illumination

Lydea

what a minute...........is the husband taking this walk or is it the wife?

stonespeaker:

I used husband, maybe I should use spouse.

...........................mastermom joined............. :)

lila

wb mastermom

mastermom

thanks all. got distracted by lunch requeste, but have caught up and am fascinated

stonespeaker:

anyway in the east we identify the problem - the south what is our roll in the problem. The interacting.

lila:

we are going to walk through the MW using a specific problem

lila:

it makes more sense to me if we work with a tangible

stonespeaker:

what body language is used, spouse frowns, wont talk, we ask what is wrong, maybe just gets quiet.

stonespeaker:

the west - how does the grumpyness resally make us feel. maybe a parent or sibling used this behavior to "pull our chains" we find in introspection that we can relate this incident to what we felt then.

stonespeaker:

north - this where the rational mind takes over. we can ignor spouse, talk to spouse, tell spouse how the grumpy behavior makes us feel

stonespeaker:

the within self analyses the process and maybe we find that just talking out will do the trick but we do our own processing.

stonespeaker:

any questions?

Lydea:

does the coyote come forward in the wheel?

lila:

where does the mother earth / father sky come into play?

stonespeaker:

lydea i am not sure what you mean? to indian people coyote is trickster and do you mean does our mind trick us?

mastermom:

we are in the process of finding a new home-trying to balance all the factors of rational choices with the emotional impact of relocating and finding a new home that "connects" on an emotional and psychological level. how would this wheel help me to center myself in the midst of this conflict within myself and with my husband?

stonespeaker:

yes, it helps put things into prospective.

Lydea:

the medicine wheel I learned has animals in it to help us, trick us, guide us, etc. I just wondered if you were going to introduce the animal spirits in this wheel.

...........................Sapphire joined............. :)

stonespeaker

lila, the above and below in problem solving isn't really used much. that is basically for spiritual.

lila:

okay. thanks

mastermom:

Thanks for all .I will check back in a bit

stonespeaker:

no, i won't get into the animals though each direction has animals. east - eagle south coyote or mouse, west black bear or raven

stonespeaker:

north white buffalo

lila:

stonespeaker, I want to thank your for hosting chat today, please continue chatting for as long as you wish as the transcript will run as long as one person is logged in......

............................mastermom left ............. :(

stonespeaker:

they even have stones - east amber, south catlinite, pipestone, west, obsidian, north - crystal

lila

larry:

stonespeaker:

if that is all the questions, i better go too, see you Friday.

Lydea:

thank you stonespeaker

stonespeaker:

i want to thank you all for being a great audience. i went over an awful lot of material. a lot of it is actually more psycological than native.

lila:

thank you all

larry:
