I remember a trip to Arizona with my parents:
Memory: I feel I must have been around 4 or 5 years old. I remembered the desert landscape, the cactus. I remembered that we had traveled there to visit my grandparents. The next day we all got into the car and went to town. It was an old western town with a raised concrete sidewalk in front of the old western buildings.
The buildings had an overhang to shade the sidewalk, and there were concrete steps from the street up to the sidewalk. I remember my Dad was talking to my grandfather in front of a store and I was looking at this wooden Indian chief with a full headdress in front of the store. I had this memory as far back as I remember.
Once I ask my mother about the trip and she told me we had never been to Arizona, nor had my grandparents ever lived there.I was very upset by that information so then I ask her about another memory I had about a car trip to Memphis Tn. When she denied this trip also, I remember being not only upset but totally mystified. I am 59 years old and at that time no one we knew had such a thing. Also we lived a pretty isolated life on a farm in the country.
