Second Go Around on the South Beach Diet

Summary: Week Eighteen - Back to Phase I - I've been consistantly following the Phase I guidelines in the SBD for the past 7 days. I felt defeated for the first four days because my daily weigh-in was indicating an increase in my weight - "Whoa!" I wondered, "What's going on?" But on the fifth day FINALLY - a drop! I ended the week with success. Aside from losing one and a half pounds I also lost another inch from my waist - (plus a half inch from each of my thighs). It really is true that "belly fat goes first" in this diet. Oddly, I gained an inch on my breasts... hmmm.. I imagine that is a hormonal flux rather than the result of the diet. Major thirst happening all week. I've drank tons of water, iced tea, hot tea, and seltzer water with a lemon slice. I also slurped down a sugar-free popsickle everyday. Nothing seems to quench my thirst, I don't recall having this "thirst" symptom during my intitial introduction to Phase I several weeks ago. My energy level was also somewhat lowered this week - my body required an extra hour of sleep for the past couple of days. I'm absolutely giddy to think I'm only two pounds away from my goal! My body feels sleek and sexy! My husband is liking what he sees-- the way my body looks and my glowing satisfaction and happiness of nearing my goal. He told me yesterday that with the weight I've lost that I look younger-- what more incentive does a gal need?

Summary: Week Nineteen - I'm so excited. I'm nearing the end-game. A couple of weeks ago I decided to go back to restrictive Phase 1 of the SBD to see if I could quicken my losses. After my initial two weeks in Phase I followed by fifteen weeks in Phase II (with minor cheating due to the holidays and personal weakness)... today is the 14th morning in my second-go-around. Boy am I ever hungry for fruit and bread! This morning I weighed in at a mere 1/2 pound away from my goal. This means I've lost another 1.5 pounds this week--total of 14.5 pounds in 19 weeks(minus one day). I still have tomorrow morning as my official weigh-in for this week. My losses have been steady, slow, but satisfying... I just don't do as well in the Phase I as the book suggests, but I'm not complaining. I lost 6 pounds in the first go-around of Phase I and 3 pounds in the second-go-around.

I can now wear a comfortable size ten instead of a snug fitting size 12 or a loose fitting size 14. Today all I can think about is Twizzlers and Lorna Doone Cookies. I'll have to think of a prize to celebrate my reaching my goal that doesn't involve food. Maybe I'll go shopping and get new pair of jeans that help me feel skinny.

Morning After 14 days of Phase I Second-Go-Around

Happy Dance! I've reach my weightloss goal! Although just barely. We live in a big two story home. The scales are in the basement. Each morning I drag myself out of bed, make a quick trip to the bathroom and then make my way to the basement to weigh myself. This morning I saw the "magic number" that I've been striving for. I quickly scrambled up the stairs to share my excitement with my husband. I asked him to come see. Together we went downstairs. To my disappointment this time when I stepped onto the scales it added that sneaky half-pound back on. What a dirty trick! My scales only give half-pound increments. I must be teetering on the very edge of meeting my goal. However... I have decided to count the first reading as my official weigh-in. I feel elated!
