The South Beach Diet

Summaries for Weeks 11 and 12

By Phylameana lila Desy, About.com

Summary: Week Eleven - I survived Thanksgiving Day! I was wondering if Thanksgiving Day dinner would set me back a pound or two for the week. But as it turned out, nothing came of it. My husband and I visited my parents' home where my mom prepared a very traditional dinner for the family. She had turkey with gravy, pot roast, corn bread stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, dinner rolls, cranberry jello, fresh spinach salad, green beans, scalloped corn, munster cheese, olives, pumpkin pie, and spiced apple cake. I ate a portion of everything except for the rolls and mashed potatoes. I'm not a big fan of mashed potatoes anyway so that was no sacrifice. My tummy was more than full enough and I felt no need to go back for seconds. Later at home, I decided to skip supper, but I did eat some popcorn and a couple of clementines while watching television before retiring to bed. The next morning the scales didn't cringe and neither did I. Now that I have my birthday and Thanksgiving behind me, I only have upcoming Christmas and New Year celebration calories to contend with. But, I think my behaviors from the past few family get-togethers I've had since beginning this diet has proven that I can enjoy these occasional celebrations. I will allow myself to indulge in enjoyable foods during celebratory events. Enjoying a few outlaw foods now and again haven't deterred me from staying aligned with healthier conscious eating for the majority of the time.

End of Week Weigh in: -.5
Total Weight loss after eleven weeks: 9.5 pounds

Summary: Week Twelve - This week my weight was teeter-tottering all over the scales. Up two, down two, up one, down two, up one. Actually, this has been the way the scales fluctuate every week. But since I hit a new low last week I have been hopeful to drop again. It would be really cool if I could say I'd lost ten pounds. But, alas-- this morning my weekly weigh-in remains at 9.5, same as last week. I'm still happy. On tuesday I went to get my driver's license renewed. Beforehand, I noticed that the weight indicated on my soon-to-be-expired license indicated I wieghed 135... uh oh. Currently I am at 140.5. When the clerk asked me if all the information on my old license was correct, hair color, eye color, weight, organ donor, etc. I told her everything was correct. What's a little 5.5 pound lie anyway? Besides, my new driver's license will last me 5 years. I'll consider my license weight as my goal for the new year.

Another bonus of weighing less is that I can once again buy women's size medium tees and sweaters. I've been wearing large and sometimes even extra-large, for the past couple of years. Clothing sizes not being standardized is a real pet peeve of mine. I like being a medium, although sometimes I still need a size large because of my height, longer torso, and long arms.

End of Week Weigh in: no change
