Translation of the word Ayurveda means "life" and "knowledge." Ayurvedic medicine is an ancient (over 3000 yrs. old), traditional system of health care practiced in India. Fundamental belief in the Ayurveda system is that everything living within the universe is composed of prana (energy). Treatment focuses on balancing the tri-doshas, vatha (elements of mostly water and earth), pitta (elements of Fire and some Water), and kapha (elements of air and space).
