Fifteen Minute Rule

Sometimes uncluttering can be overwhelming. What I have learned to do and to maintain is my "15 minute a day rule." Simply put, it consists of doing one chore for no longer than 15 minutes in duration. For example: Perhaps the bedroom is the place to start. I need to tidy and sort clothing in his and her closets, I also need to do the same in each dresser etc... So I might begin with my dresser. The sock and underwear drawer. I will today, clean out this one drawer. What needs to be garbaged, recycled, passed on (a woman's shelter welcomes such items, as they are needed and few are donated). I then keep a list of what needs to go on a shopping list... ie: need tennis socks.

If you have a dresser with five drawers-you will have completely cleaned out that space. Don't you feel better.

The trouble with doing the work all in a day is that you will not be able to assign that same amount of energy to this same space for perhaps another year.

In 15 minutes a day, everyone can achieve, everyone can feel terrific knowing that they are being consistent and that their goal is achievable. It works for me and my family and I am totally disabled. The old adage is true... whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.
