Carnival of Healing #7: Different Perspectives
Saturday September 10, 2005
Welcome to the 7th edition of the Carnival of Healing!
We all can get stuck in our personal points-of-view. Next time you're in a conversation with someone who opposes you on a subject you have strong convictions about don't feel as if you have to jump in and sell your side of it. Relax! Try to sit back and listen intently before sharing your opinions. Use it as an opportunity to review your thinking process. Your perspective might be overdue for some minor or major adjustments.
Many of us are still rebounding from the shock and turmoil of energies stirred up by Katrina. Seeing the devastation sure has put a whole new perspective on things that I would have called "annoyances" a couple of weeks ago. These things now seem barely important, much less annoying.
For example: The contractor we commissioned to install our new kitchen cabinets next week telephoned to say he wouldn't be able to do the work until December. Normally, I would have hit the roof (for what little good that would do). But, because my mind is filled with thoughts about so many Gulf Coast families now without homes, this postponement didn't phase me. I said "Oh, can't get to the job for another couple of months? Okay, no biggie." What's a couple of months anyway?
Evelyn Rodriguez of Crossroads Dispatches shares her process of taking time out weekly and yearly to revigorate her creative self in her blog article So What Now: Responding to Our Calling. She says "In Tibetan Buddhism, it's called drawing a circle." Doesn't creating a circle sound more natural than drawing yourself inside a box of old-thinking? Why not break-out of our boxes of confinement and shake off any stale perspectives?
- From the Perspective of a Survivor
Evelyn (survivor of the Dec 26th tsunami) says she will be blogging about healing from trauma in the coming weeks. Her sister, a clinical psychologist who counsels on post-traumatic growth, intends to lend her expertise there too. She asked me to please add this link for our carnival readers: Katrina Help
Reflections of a Mom posts about Hurricane Katrina Refugees. Her seven year old son, Tanner, welcomed a new classmate (a Katrina Survivor) into his classroom in an Arkansas elementary school. Mom went to Wal Mart and bought his new friend everything he needed… pencils, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, paper, notebook, folder, etc.
What Are Your Past and Future Perspectives?
Steve Pavlina describes his favorite meditation which is a future projection visualization. It looks like an interesting exercise to undertake in which you would open up a dialog with yourself five years in the future. You-in-the-present would then trade places with your-future-you who would then communicate with you-from-your-past (which is really you-in-the-present). Sound confusing? It's really not, Steve explains it better: Take a Look
Friends and Friendship
yeyen (i'll catch those tears) posts her perspective on friendship
and true friends. She says "Friends are really treasures. They are hard to find. They can't be bought, as well as sold. We might have so many acquaintances but we'll never have so many friends. Friends are similar to acquaintances but they're not totally the same. You may know acquaintances by their faces and by their names but only friends can be close to your heart. Sometimes, even if without a name and without a face, friends know each other by heart."A Letter To My Children offers a perspective on Being Poor after reading several other perspectives about being poor.
Jin Dhaliwa is offering a "Bonus Free Gift" from her blog, Messages For Your Journey. The gift is a free copy of her ebook Peace Becomes Me. There is a hitch though, she requires folks to sign up for her mailing list. Jin's perspective of "free" is very different from mine.
Coffee Perk-u-lating Perspective
Mr. Satire reports on Starbuck Jr's focus on students and healthy(?) antioxidant rich coffee.
