I’m sort of a unsentimental realist, but even I find great benefit in the practice of expressing gratitude for the positive things in one’s life. Maybe it’s just because one is forced to look for them!

I’m grateful for my wonderful and healthy family. But today I’m also grateful to be living in a country where democracy rules and people’s votes count. It’s a beautiful thing that we can elect a president to lead us without war or violence or anything more than verbal attacks in TV ads.
