May 12, 2012 - Today would have been the one year birthday for Lightning Medicine Cloud. I reported on the white buffalo calf's naming ceremony last summer. Sadly I have now learned that both Lightning Medicine Cloud and his mother have been killed. The white buffalo's father died from a lightning strike on April 3rd. All three dead in the span of a month.

The white buffalo symbolizes peace and hope of all nations. The slaughter of these two is a shameful action, and is being called (rightfully so!) a hate crime. A reward now in the upwards amount of $45,000 has been raised via an outpouring of donations.
In an act of compassion, the Sacred World Peace Alliance located in Oregon is donating a white buffalo from its herd to the Lakota Ranch in Texas (AP - abcnews).

What a terrible act of violence. Will people ever learn to respect what God/Goddess, Mother Earth etc has given to us? It is indeed a sad cruel world that exists today. We can only pray that humans will evolve into a better species.
