Peta billboard campaign compares dogs confined in cars to humans locked inside sweat lodges. Seeing this billboard made me feel creepy ill. Who comes up with this stuff? People can be reminded not to leave their pets in their parked cars when temps are high without this type of SHOCK campaign... It feels so wrong. Am I wrong?

I had a look at the billboard in question, and did not find it offensive, shocking or in bad taste at all.
It is only stating a fact, and it included human suffering before even mentioning the death of the dog.
It will only attract those who are doing it out of ignorance, not those who could care less anyway. It will correct the behavior of those actually open to the message.

Its a tad bit dramatic & misinforming because it makes the assumption that all sweat lodges will indefinitely kill you. But that’s PETA, they like to shock. Personally I feel PETA works, they helps me to stay meat free. If anyone’s ever seen one of their under cover videos you know what I am referring to. Im torn on this one b/c if it saves animal lives then more power to them…but at the same time it’s misinformation about sweat lodges.
This is a very evil ad campaign. It makes sense only in the context of the recent events where a people died under the care of a bogus guru in a phony sweat lodge.
The sweat lodge is a sacred ceremony and it should not be defamed in this way. How would people like it if an ad said a bible meeting can kill you, a hot car can kill a dog? People die at bible meetings too, especially when they get into “healings” and “exorcisms.”
I think it’s a bit melodramatic, but it does make the point and get one’s attention. However, if someone doesn’t follow the news and know about the sweat lodge incident, then it’s meaningless and puzzling.
Personally, I have no respect for PETA. They profess to care so much, but they euthanize thousands of pets each year rather than try to re-home them. They’ll give a dozen or so to no-kill shelters who contact THEM…but the rest get killed and frozen and thrown in the trash.
PETA is a very wealthy and despicable organization. I used to support them until I learned the truth about them.
I don’t think the comparison is right. The people in the sweat made the choice to be there and also could have made the choice to leave. Animals and children left in cars do not have that choice. I can only hope that the tragic things that occur in this life help to wake people up and pay attention. We must all take Personal responsibility for our choices and the consequences. Blaming is not taking responsibility.
People are so blind to what they do, it’s important to use that shock factor. Sickening is what they aim for sometimes, because it’s blunt and truthful. It does use recent events to mislead you about sweat lodges and I agree that that’s where they went wrong, but other than that it’s pretty accurate.
