I read an article at Red Orbit this afternoon about a study undertaken regarding pediatricians accepting prayer as a remedy for their patients, specifically pediatric oncologists. The article, Religion and Medicine: Sometimes a Healing Prescription gives insight on how some doctors relate to family members who wish to discuss religious remedies such as prayer or spiritual healing as part of patient care.
My doctor knows that I take a holistic approach to my own health, but we've never had a serious discussion about my spiritual beliefs. I think these types of conversations tend to happen when a patient is very ill or if you are a family member of someone who is facing a life-threatening diagnosis. If you answered yes to the above poll and did speak with a doctor about your spiritual beliefs please post under comments how your doctor responded. Thank you.
