Elephants Suffer from PTSD Same as Humans

The story, The Elephant Shrink, about orphaned elephants suffering from violence at the hands of hunters and also in our zoos really tugged at my heart. Dr. Gay Bradshaw, executive director of the Kerulos Center, is working to help elephants heal from the effects of human violence using the principles of psychology and traditional healing. Dr. Bradshaw is convinced that captive elephants suffer post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) just like people do.

The elephant as a totem is representative of longevity. Living longer is a blessing but not when suffering shadows it. Quality of life is just as important to animals as it is to humans. I am so very grateful there are people like Dr. Bradshaw who are are dedicated to caring for the animals who share the planet with us.
