A new research report was published last month (July 2009) by the Free University of Brussels in the Journal of Coastal Research. The focus of the report was to evaluate the curative effects of thalassotherapy (therapies based on the use of seawater and other sea products) treatments which are currently being offered in European spas and wellness centers.

Labeling various spa treatments incorrectly as thalssotherapy was of some concern, citing "It would be best to limit its use to seaside treatments calling upon climate factors, seawater bathing, impact of waves, marine (e.g., algal) products poultices, seawater medication..."

You can read the full report - PDF to learn about the origins of thalassotherpy and explore the science behind seawater resources having medicinal benefits.
