Dear Madeleine,
I would like to know if my "Paddy" is happy with me? I've only had him for about 8 months from a family that ignored him totally for 2 years. He doesn't care much about getting on my lap but will sleep on my head at night and it's not easy as he's 18.5 pounds. I love him dearly and only wish for his happiness as I will love him for the rest of his life.

Hi Robby,
What a great cat! Animals who have been disrespected and not allowed their personalities to flourish do take a while to adjust. I had an Irish setter that was a rescue dog and I could tell that he had never been talked to. He just didn't seem to look at me or to need to hear what I had to say. It takes time for them to realise that they can interact with us and that they are now respected and loved. He obviously feels safe with you and loves your company so hang on in there. He is one special cat!
Best wishes,
Madeleine Walker,

I feed stray dogs on the beach, pat them and talk to them. Then they want to follow me home and that is the saddest part. I have to shoo them away.
One of the greatest things I’ve found for helping animals adjust to being in a new home is the Bach Flower Remedies. The “Rescue Remedy” formula can help to alleviate any grief or current stress; adding in the “Walnut” flower can help the animal adjust to his new surroundings and family. They are powerful homeopathic remedies that are safe for use with animals and can really help them (and of course people too!). They inexpensive to purchase and are available in any health food store.
