That’s really interesting! A lovely photo and very interesting article on magical totems. Thanks, Phylameana!
I’ve always wanted to see one of these in person. Beautiful photo!
Oooh! Isn’t that wonderful?
That is really cool! What a great photo. Happy WW!
I’ve always wondered what faerie rings looked like in real. Thanks for sharing a “faerie” beautiful photo.
Very cool. I appreciate learning something new along with the photo. Thanks!
Just be careful to never disturb it!!!
I would never think of disturbing a faerie ring. I wouldn’t want to accidentally trample a wee spirit, or disregard the sacredness of the circle.
That’s a lovely shot. Faerie Folklore can be so interesting.
I wonder exactly how and why these interesting circles appear / are caused?
Thanks for your visit to my WW puzzle. I am thinking the answer to the damage in the photos is a Sapsucker. I found and linked to another photo that closely resembles what is on my trees.
Happy WW!
Such an interesting photo!! And it looks warm too, it’s so cold and snow covered where I am!
Tabitha, it is cold and snowy here too. The photo was taken in the month of June, several years ago actually.
Faerie rings are amazing!
What is more amazing to me is that you have
a kid that old! lol….
You look to young to have older children!!!
Hey Tina,
Thanks for the compliment about looking too young to have older children. *blushing* I have 3 grown children (ages 35, 32, and 30) and one grandchild (5 months old). I was 19 when I gave birth to my oldest son, I’ll let someone else to the math. Ha! I certainly feel old enough. And in case anyone is wondering, the photo of me plastered all over this site was taken in 2007. I DO look youthful, don’t I? Ha!
From what I understand, fairies actually do use these rings.. often as portals to the physical realms. They encourage the spores to take hold in that area, and certain spores will grow in a ring shape.
I did an experiment this September… I (out loud) asked any fairies , gnomes, elves.. or whatever type was in my yard at that moment to feel free to make a fairy ring. I suggested to them to please make it under our pine trees because my father would probably mow it down with his lawn mower.
Wouldnt you know it but about 2 weeks later a large fairy ring sprung up RIGHT WHERE I suggested it!!! and not only that… the types of mushrooms that sprung up were the spitting image of a mushroom figurine I had in a fairy garden growing nearby.
I still cant’ get over it. Someone of that realm heard me.
This evening I noticed a fairy ring in my yard. I was excited and almost joyous UNTIL I noticed my chihuahua eating pieces of the mushroom. I am sorry to say that I had to take the mushrooms out of the yard and am now closely watching my little dog. I love fairies…but I love my little dog more.
I live in Las Vegas, Nevada and I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding these mushrooms.
And……how can I appease the fairies for destroying their little ring?
FYI - Several responses to Maggie’s concerns about her chihauhau eating mushrooms (comment #16) can be read from this followup blog entry: My Dog Ate the Faerie Ring Mushrooms
