Wordless Wednesday - Bat Totem
This is a recent capture (September 2008) of a little brown bat. We discovered him clinging to the inside screen in our kitchen window one morning. He was a bit cranky about getting shoved inside a mason jar and having his photo taken. Later in the day we let him loose in a cornfield near a barn across town.

he was a bit growly there… or do they hiss?
I believe the bats in our valley here have migrated.
I hope that bat is not a vampire bat..see mine thanks..
Little bat, but those teeth look big!
Happy WW
You’re brave to transfer a bat to a jar and to the outdoors. Did you wear protective gloves? I’d worry about being bitten, as they’ve caught rabid bats in my area.
I love bats! We had them in the hay loft of our 120 year old barn when I was growing up, and barn swallows in the basement. Late afternoon when both groups were stirring was something to behold!
Happy WW!
I personally would not be able to live with the bats. My husband is even more spooked out. He is afraid of all things with wings. I’m the brave one when it comes to insects and birds. But a bat would make even me nervous. It’s those teeth and their scary face. Congrats on your bravery!
I hate mosquitoes, so I love bats. But I don’t LIKE them. Not very cuddly.
Just in time for holloween! I love the metaphor of the bat–always listening.

Aww, what a cutie! I’m a caver, so I’ve been up close and personal with little brown bats many times. I just wish we had more around our property, as the mosquitos are crazy!
Thanks for commenting on my batty WW!
Wow that’s funny. He was “grouchy” you say?
I’ll bet he was! It’s great that you let him go.
Not long ago my four cats alerted me to a mouse in the house. I was able to put them up before they hurt him/her and then I spent half an hour herding the little guy out the front door.
It’s important to respect life on all levels I believe.

Cranky? He looks a little more than cranky. I would have freaked if I saw him. Cute little face though.
