Buddy's Candle
Thursday October 9, 2008
Almost everyone can relate to the loss of a pet. My family lost our pet cockatiel, Lover Boy, this past winter. We had Lover Boy for 21 years. His passing made a big hole in our hearts. It was difficult for me to phone each of my three children (who are all adults now) to tell them that Lover was gone. I cannot even imagine having to sit down with a young child to explain the death of a family pet.Buddy's Candle is a storybook for children that deals with the sensitive issue of death in general and the loss of a pet. It touches on the subjects of dying, the rainbow bridge, unconditional love, life lessons, reincarnation, and the healing powers of pets.

I read your email and the links about dealing with grief and wanted to let you know of a little book that helped my 4 year old deal with the stillborn loss of his brother.
It was called “No More Baby” published by a organization that deals with grief and loss. I got it through the Ohio public library system. It has a wonderful thought “It’s like going to a Birthday Party and there is no cake and ice cream” which really describes the incredible let down feeling of the loss perfectly.
I don’t know if you would want to add that to your page on loss of a child, but it really helped my children cope with our loss.
Also, thank you for telling about “Alchemical Woman” I’ve started the book and I find it very helpful.
Thank you so much for your helpful email newsletters!
Hello Brenda,
Thank you. I did a quick Internet search for “No More Baby” without success, so I am not able to consider it as a resource for my readers at this time. But I am happy that you found it reassuring and helpful for your young son during your time of loss. I’m so sorry for your loss and sadness.
Blessings,
It would help if I gave you the right name of the book! It’s called No New Baby.
I can’t even tell you how thankful I was this book was written! I think it helped both Mommy and 3 little boys ages 2, 4 & 6 deal with our loss!
Blessings,
Brenda
