Hypnosis Used as an Alternative to Anesthesia
Sunday May 18, 2008
Alex Lenkei, 61 YO hypnotist, elected to undergo surgery without a general anaesthetic. As an alternative he used a self hypnosis techinque to put himself in a trance. Fully aware of the procedure, he was in a state of relaxation while a walnut-sized bone was surgically removed from his thumb. Wow, I'm not so sure I could be as confident or brave. Lenkel's heart, blood pressure and breathing rate that were being monitored throughout the 80 minute procedure indicated no change. No change meant no pain.

I had my tubal ligation in the 70’s and it was done while I was using self-hypnosis and a 5 mg valium taken an hour before the procedure.
I was aware of everything and felt the tugging and pulling and snipping, but I had no pain and got through the procedure just fine.
I’ve also awakened during 2 surgeries and a colonoscopy, and I spoke to the doctors, but I felt no pain, and of course, they gave me more anaesthetic as soon as they knew I was awake. I’m glad they did because I don’t know if I would have been able to use the self-hypnosis instantly without feeling any pain. They were more upset than I was.
It’s not so traumatic if one is not inclined to panic, self-doubt,fear or expectations of failure.
The power of the mind is amazing.
