Carnival Day! It's the BIG 100

Saturday August 25, 2007
holistic healingI've been anticipating the 100th edition of the Carnival of Healing for a few weeks now. The summer months have been swelling with humidity and hot temps. Flooding rain waters are seeping into the basements of midwest homes (including mine). Mops and buckets, sump pumps, and shop vacs are put to good use. Rain and hot sticky weather are often expected for the summer carnival. Regardless, we forgo our fashionable sun hats and leave our umbrellas in the car. Getting our noses sunburned and our clothing soppy wet is part of the fun when attending the carnival. In the river town where I live the carnival camps along the Mississippi mid-June before the scorcher temps of August arrive, but the fishy-smelling mayflies are buzzing about.

What's the BUZZ about blog carnivals?

Blog carnivals can be attended in the comfort of your own home, or while you're hanging out at any WIFI location. I am tempted to go down to my favorite Internet cafe alongside the railroad tracks with my laptop while I put this mile market edition (the Big 100) of the Carnival of Healing together... but no, I think I'd be distracted too easily by the sounds of blaring horns and screeching wheels as the trains go by. I do love trains. So, I'll save that trip for another day.

The Carnival of Healing is a weekly round-up of blogs across the Internet featuring information about healing, self empowerment, and spirituality.

The Carnival of Healing blog carnival began on Saturday July 30, 2005 with its first meager edition. I had the dream of more.... and my dream has been fulfilled. Two years strong, our carnival has been cranking out bigger and better carnival editions ever since. I've seen other carnivals die out along the way, so I'm especially proud. I've learned a lot along the way, and have met some wonderful bloggers (and readers too). That's the best part! It is you, the bloggers and the readers, who have made the a carnival so successful.

Having More Stuff Doesn't Help

Millionaire Mommy Next Door posts How to Treat Affluenza: Spend Less and Live a Happier Life. She says "The number of "very happy" people peaked in 1957, and has remained fairly stable or declined ever since. Even though we consume twice as much as we did in the 1950s, people were just as happy when they had less. 86% of Americans who voluntarily cut back their consumption feel happier as a result. David Wann (co-author of Affluenza: The All-Consuming Epidemic) encourages us to become historical superheros. We can change our world; save our world. Let's curb our consumption so that our grandkids can read about our generation in their history books with reverence."

My husband and I met at mutual friend's home. We were both dating losers at the time -- ouch. Six months later after we ended those relationships we started seeing each other. What kind of commonality does that indicate? We move on when things don't work? We've been through the fire, and appreciate the calm waters? Tsk.. Tsk.. Joe and I will be celebrating our 20th anniversary next week. We been through plenty of arguments and truces. He's a keeper.

that was a great idea, listing some of the previous “stellar” carnivals. thanks also for another explanation of what carnivals are. they are well-known among bloggers but perhaps not among readers. thanks also for including my article.

Thanks Isabella. You’re right that many readers don’t really “get” blog carnivals. I’ve suggested my husband to start up a blog so he has a personal forum for his interests… and although he knows I have been blogging for a long time, he’s not really clear on how a blog is different from a Web site or a message board.

Hi Phylameana. Congratulations on #100! That’s awesome. And it looks like the carnival is getting even better! Which is hard to believe, considering how great it’s always been.

I think it’s time for me to get my butt back over here and submit an article!

And thanks for stopping by the Law of Attraction carnival and adding your congrats on our 1-year anniversary!
