How Change Happens - Breaking Bad Habits

By November 21, 2006

Follow me on:

We all have them, patterns of negative behavior that confine us or block our opportunites. I'm certainly a creature of habit, I have my routines. One of my bad habits is stepping on the scales first thing each morning. This morning ritual has become an obsession... this behavior is not serving me at all. Realistically, I should weigh in once a week or once month, not once a day. It is self-defeating to always be concerned about gaining a pound or two... or even three. On those days when I see that my weight is up a bit, my spirit feels heavier too. Who needs to start their day like that? I'm determined to change this behavior beginning right now.

New Article - How to Change a Nasty Habit: The Obstinate Person's Guide to Self-evolution
Life Coach, Anandra George, says 'Being a better person is not something that happens overnight... We have to believe that there is a better way, and trust that change is possible. Perhaps hardest of all, we have to be willing to mold ourselves into something better, and let the comfort of old bad habits die a natural death."

Do you have a bad habit? How do you resolve to break it?

Dear Phylameana,

Good Luck on your resolve in a very timely article. Determination to change is powerful fuel for the self. I’ve been trying to change my nasty habits of late and I notice after I made the intent, there was resistance internally and around me. But that’s bound to happen as tiny tests to check my resolve. In the process I am learning to treat myself gently, patiently and not beat myself up if I dont exercise ‘properly” every day.
