Near Death Experiences

Monday April 10, 2006
The whole idea of NDE (Near Death Experiences) is intriguing to the seeker. I can't say that I've ever had one. Although I have experienced sleep paralysis (also known as the Old Hag Syndrome). Experiencing sleep paralysis can be confusing or scary. Florence Cardinal, About Sleep Disorders Guide, reports on the comparison of sleep paralysis and NDEs.

My first sleep paralysis experience went like this: I was sleeping in my bed, it was early morning. I heard a knock at the door, I attemped to get out of bed to answer it but discovered that I could not move my body. It was as if a magnet was holding my body against the mattress. Soon, I heard footsteps in the house. This frightened me. Then at the foot of my bed appeared my father standing. He was talking to me, but I could not understand what he was saying. I was no longer frightened as my father was not a stranger in my home. However, I was still upset because I could barely open my eyes, could not speak, and could not get my body to respond to my brain telling me to get out of bed. My father then left. Later, when I was fully awake I telephoned my father to apologize for not being awake enough to respond to him, and to ask him what it was he wanted. He told me that he hadn't been to my home. Wow! And it seemed so real.

Dear Phylameana, thank you for your comment on my blog and for your article on sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis has actually given me a route into practising astral projection, although for many years it was just a very frustrating experience. Now that I’ve learned to leave the body, sleep paralysis has become a reward. Let me know if you do any more related research.
Take care and much peace, Pallavi

Pallavi,

I reckon if a person can just get past the panic of feeling physically paralysed and learns to use intention to project themselves astrally in those moments it would be fulfilling.

Since I was 14, I have experienced spontaneous OBE. Not as much older than when younger. I hear wind or chimes, cannot move my body, and then find myself apart from my body. I would like to know what the meaning of wind or chimes means.

Hi,
I would like to tell you about my experience that I had about 12 years ago. I was awake laying in bed, and I know I was awake because I could see outside, and also I saw and heard my sister who came over to bring me a newspaper, anyways, I was drifting or flying over the world, all I know is I looked down, and it was so far away, and yet I saw so many nice things too, my sister was trying to get me to wake up, but the whole truth was I was awake, but I could not move my body. I do not know if that was near death experience or not, but it was very bright, and it was peaceful too, I also am suffering from sleep apnea and other medical issues too. This was strange, and I wanted to share it with you, because you are someone who understands what I am saying and believes me.

Good luck everyone with your future sleeping.

Sincerly,
Tracy
