Carnival of Healing #31: "Whys" and the "Y's"

Saturday February 25, 2006
Welcome to the 31st edition of the Carnival of Healing. Our carnival is a weekly round-up of blogs across the Internet featuring information about healing, self empowerment, and spirituality.

This week Brendan McPhillips ponders on the BIG question that we all ask ourselves, What is the Meaning of Life? Brendan provides us with four overviews of spiritual growth and understanding.

I just assume that everyone wants to know WHY we are living here on the planet, what the purpose of being born in the first place is, etc. I'm thankful that I don't get caught up in trying to figure out the whys on a daily basis, sometimes I'm just content to BE, and don't get caught up in the question marks. But, curiosity and the intense drive to know or reason out why life plays out the way it does seems to be human nature.

What is my higher purpose? Is this all there is? Why me? Why not me? These are the basic questions. The answers are probably not as complicated as we might suppose. At least that is the conclusion I've come to.
We are here to experience being human and grow our spirtitual selves at an accelerated pace
What? While that sounds pretty cool, sometimes I just wish my growth would slow down when life gets bumpy because it can feel like the warranty on my shock absorbers just expired, AND that the auto-parts shop workers are on strike so I can't buy replacements OR I'm out of cash and can't afford new shocks. It's SHOCKING how life can throw us such huge potholes in the road we are forced to journey onward. *sigh*

Health, Mind and Relationships Blog suggests that we anticipate turns, detours, and potholes.
The purpose of your life map is to minimize hasty and spur-of-the-moment decisions that can make you lose your way. But often times our plans are modified along the way due to some inconveniences, delays, and other situations beyond our control. Like in any path, there are turns, detours, and potholes thus; we must anticipate them and adjust accordingly.
It is these potholes - "the struggles" that can drive some spirituality seekers into choosing solitude or hermit-tendencies so that they can withdraw from the interactions with the world that tends to create chaos or disorder. Steve Pavlina, gives his perspective ---"I think withdrawing from the world like that is a cop-out."--- on cave dwellers in his posting Cave-Free Spirituality. Another perspective on the solitary life choice is given from Unraveling the Spiritual Mystique - Alexys Fairfield asks Are they (monks) really happy or are they just escapists from life's harsh reality?

Aside from the "Whys" (those nagging question marks that keep popping into our heads) there is also the "Y's" that can be buggers. These are the Y's in the road forcing us to choose left from right, yes or no, stay or leave, push or pull. If Life is a school then one of the mandatory classes assuredly is "DECISION MAKING 101 - How to stop sitting on the fence."

Gareth Cook, Boston Globe Staffer, offers a Thought for Thinkers - "stop thinking about it" when stuggling with difficult decisions.

Elisa Camahort from hip and zen pen writes about making informed consumer decisions. She posts about corporate responsibility in her blog - Doing Business and Doing Good. She lists the criteria she considers before choosing to support invest in corporations.

Thank you for attending our carnival and reviewing the various attracttions! I hope you enjoyed exploring the Whys and Ys.

Next week I will once again be hosting the carnival, but it will be hosted at my Spiral Visions Blog. If you missed last week's carnival that was hosted at Intutitive Innovations Jodie Foster welcomes your visit. The carnival theme was on Body Images - a subject everyone can relate to.

Attention Bloggers: We are interested in your healing blog posts for future carnival attractions. Submit your healing blog posts
