South Beach Diet Journal Feedback

In My Mailbox - Reader Response - I'm enjoying the mail I've been receiving regarding my SBD log. All your encouraging comments have been well received. I want to share a few of them with all of you. These emails are from Mary Jane, Gretchen, and Liz.
Yahoo! Good for you! I am enjoying reading your progress and journal about the SBD. I am also on it and have found that your journal is very much like mine (not following it to the letter).
I am in week three - switched to Phase 2 and afraid to eat the OK carbs. My downfall is beer with friends on the weekends. I have indulged the last 3 weekends. So I tried the new Michelob ULTRA 4.0+ (something) carbs. Not as good as a good Blue Labatts, but OK.
I also have been one not to like "artificial sugars"....something about chemicals in my body. But have gotten accustomed to the sugar-free jello (although somewhat reluctantly) ...have a lousy freezer, but I would love to have fudge pops available.
Looking forward to your continuing reports!
Gretchen

Hi, I’ve been very interested in your S.B. Diet Log because I bought the book a couple months ago and have been waiting for all my favorite fruit to go ‘out of season’ before I started — peaches, bing cherries, watermelon. So now that time has come — and I can’t put it off any longer.
One thought I have after reading your Log is that if you normally eat about as much as you’re eating on this Diet Plan, then it wouldn’t seem that you are overweight. I can empathize with you about the morning cola — nothing will ever replace the real thing, and I’m not about to try.
Thanks for keeping the Log, it’s very helpful to me; I hope you’ll keep it up.

About the SBD. I stuck right to the book for 3 weeks on Phase 1. Lost about 6 pounds but then got really dizzy. I quit the diet but still ate sensibly. Have kept 5 pounds off but I do exercise quite a bit. My belly is much reduced and am hopeful to do another round on Phase 1 for 2 weeks plus the Pilates I do and maybe the belly will be gone by then.
I also do weight lifting 30 minutes 3 times a week and a stretching tape called Stretching for Seniors with Ann Smith. I do hope to add my yoga tape to my workout but am too busy right now. I am 75 years old and I wish everybody would do what I am doing. Many of my friends are with canes and struggling and many could have prevented it from happening.
Good luck.
Liz

Hi,
I liked what you had listed on your phase 1 diet. It is always hard for me to figure out to eat each day.. I do tend to go towards carbs since they are easy to fix if I cn’at think of anything…. I was trying to figure out what to cook for the next few days but I have found that I will make an omlette tonight for Supper and have an egg for breakfast with a cheeseburger that is bun-less or chili I have homemade in the freezer. I don’t like bell pepper cooked so I will make my quiche cups with spinach instead.
My boss also got me drinking 5-7 cups of green tea (brew about 5 mins) everyday and it has helped me.. she also lost over 45 lbs and 2 sizes in 1 year doing that and eating healthy… I will keep you posted on my progress.
If you want to create a forum for people to use to discuss using green tea with this diet that would be great!
Please keep in touch it’s great to hear the successes of others who are doing this diet too!

Hello DeeDee,
Thank you for your comments. It will soon be five years since I began following the SBD (Septembr 2003). I have been thinking about blogging or writing an article “Five Years Later” type of update to let my readers know where I’m at, weight-wise and attitude-wise, my current diet, etc. It is like you are giving me a nudge to do this. I drink tea every morning. Sometimes green, sometimes black, sometimes herbal. I seldom drink sugary colas anymore.
Please feel free to start a discussion in our forums about green tea, the SBD, etc. to see if you spark any interest.
