Thunder Boomers
Tuesday July 8, 2003
We experienced quite a spectacular thunderstorm this afternoon in our region
(Southeast Iowa). We had a tremendous downpour of rain, lightning, thunder, and excitable wind that
brought down several tree branches. The wind also knocked a bird nest out of
our maple tree from which we were able to
rescue two surviving baby robins. Their parents were soon afterwards hovering
over them protectively. We also lost our electric power for a few hours which
enabled me to take a glorious nap.
I enjoy listening to nature's thunder boomers. How about you?
This is the time of year when thunderstorms are common. How much do you know about thunderstorms? Do you know how best to protect yourself and others during these events?
